Drawing inspiration from the myth of Telemachus, Recalcati interprets the discontent of the younger generation in the hypermodern society and the decline in the symbolic authority of the father. Inheritance, as Recalcati states, lies in Telemachus’ forward movement in his own Odyssey that exposes him to hazards, and it is not the consolidation of identity. In other words, we need a testimony to establish the union of law and desire, and this is what Recalcati calls the transition from Oedipus and Narcissus to Telemachus.
